06.09 - Power of Myth

Today in class, we watched an episode from "The Power of Myth" in which Joseph Campbell discussed the significance of the hero's cycle in looking at East Asian mythology. We paused the film at several points to discussion connections to The Ramanayana and individuals' reactions to Campbell's perspective.

06.06 - Hero's Journey Slideshow

At the beginning of class today, partner groups got together to plan out their hero's journey slideshow according to our review of the process yesterday. We then presented these slideshows. After the slideshows, we discussed how the hero's journey was portrayed in The Ramayana and talked about the role that dharma (social honor and responsibility) plays in the story.

If you have not finished reading The Ramayana, do so before the final.

06.05 - Ramayana Hero's Journey

The focus of today's class was on the hero's journey as it is represented through The Ramayana. Our goal for today was to have everyone work with a partner to create a hero's journey slideshow for The Ramayana. In preparation for this, we reviewed how to use the slideshow format to present the stages of the hero's journey. To focus this review, we watched a YouTube video (below) in which two improvisational actors explain the format. This presentation is a bit more funny/silly since it is improvised. Our activity uses the format in a planned and serious way (but still fun) way to look at key events from The Ramayana.

Groups ended up having a lot of work to do in finishing the story and mapping it out according to the hero's journey so we did not present today, but will present tomorrow.

06.04 - Hindu God Image Synthesis (Final Day)

Everyone had the period today to work on their Hindu god found poem and image synthesis. The image synthesis should be finished today in class or will need to be worked on outside of class.

For tomorrow and Friday we will be discussing The Ramayana. Yesterday, in class I gave out hero's journey note sheets for people to complete for The Ramayana. These are due tomorrow.

6.03 - Hindu God Image Synthesis

Everyone had the period today to work on their Hindu god found poem and image synthesis. We will also have the class period tomorrow to finish these up.

Final Due Date - Fri 6/06, 2:30 p.m.

All work is due this Friday, June 06 at 2:30 p.m.

Assignments on Google Drive have the same time requirement. I will be going by the time stamp on the document (i.e. before Friday at 2:30 p.m.)

This includes completing and revising assignments.

I am available after school from 2-3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to help people with their work. I will be available from 2-2:15 on Thursday and from 2-2:30 on Friday.

06.02 - Revisions and Grade Reports

At the beginning of class today, I handed out grade report sheets and returned assignments that were submitted last week. Everyone then had the rest of the period to work on completing and revising assignments as necessary.

One assignment that I recommended people focus on was the Siddhartha reading test. This test must be completed in the room (people are free to come up to class during a study hall or after school).

If anyone revised or completed all assignments they could work on reading the first three chapters of The Ramayana and/or work on the Hindu god found poem and image synthesis.

I was available throughout the rest of the period to help people with assignments.

Read chapters 1, 2, and 3 of The Ramayana  (pages 337 - 347).

Finish the found poem on your Hindu god and poet's statement (if you did not do so in class).

Continue searching for images and information on your god that will help you understand the images.
Start taking notes of trends you observe on the image synthesis sheet.

Complete any missing assignments and revise assignments that scored below a 92.
